Refraction 2022 launched with a collaborative partnership between the Black Speculative Arts Movement and Public Records for Carnegie Hall's NYC-wide Afrofuturism festival. The March 17th event presented current movements in digital art and electronic music in conversation between Africa and the Diaspora. Matriarchal Futures, a visual art exhibition, portrayed woman-centric Afrofuturist narratives through works by the Cyber Baat African artist collective. In the Sound Room, FLEX AVE showcased Epic B, Hitmakerchinx, and Uninamise, Flex Dance Music icons who set the stage for the subculture's distinct contortionist choreography. The pairing traced kinetic connections across Black music history while building Afrofuturist worlds of sound and dance.
Refraction and The Department of Decentralization are presenting the art programming at this year’s ETHBerlin from May 24-26. The exhibition is curated through an Open Call. Interested artists can submit their artwork from April 10th to May 10th.
